Starting Insanity?

I see questions from people starting Insanity all the time whether it’s on the message boards or from people on our team. I get questions about what to expect and when you should start seeing results. Since these questions are so common I wanted to write a post for those who are just starting or are thinking about starting Insanity.

Insanity was the first Beachbody program I completed and really loved it.  I incorporated the workouts into a hybrid as well because I really think they work.  I wrote a review of Insanity which you can check out here.

In my opinion, Insanity is the hardest workout put on DVD so it is important to be prepared. So if you’re just starting out here is some advice.

First, your nutrition is just as important as the workouts.  If you don’t change your diet and track what you eat, you won’t see the results you want.  Many people complain about not seeing any results in the first month, but 9 times out of 10 it’s because they aren’t eating right.  I made the same mistake.  I lost 0 pounds my first month because I didn’t change anything about my diet.  Then I decided to dial my nutrition in and lost 17 pounds in the second month!  So I know how important your nutrition is to getting great results with this program.

Second, make sure you have good shoes and a good surface to do the workouts on.  You’ll be doing a ton of jumping and really need to make sure you protect your knees and ankles.  I can always tell when I need new workout shoes because my knees start aching a bit.  If you have bad knees or a bad back it might not be the best idea for you.

Third, don’t worry about making it all the way through the workouts right away.  Many people get discouraged because they have to take breaks, but that is completely normal!  Even the people in the videos can’t make it all the way through without taking breaks.  It’s called Insanity for a reason!  So just do what you can and take breaks when needed. You’ll find that you get better at each workout every time you do it. Then you start month two…

Finally, having a good support group is critical.  The workouts are very hard and it’s important to have other people that can give you energy to do them on the days that you might not feel like it.  Plus it’s a lot more fun to compete with each other and see how other people are progressing along with the program.  In my experience, people are much more likely to finish a program if they’re plugged into a group than if they’re just doing it themselves.  So if you want to give yourself the best chance of finishing the program, plug in here with our team and we can help motivate you!  If you’re not already on our team, you can join here.
