Secret to Success

What’s the secret to success?  What will allow you to really see the results you are looking for?  Well I can’t take credit for this, but I think Albert E.N. Gray has some extremely insightful words that apply to getting in shape as much as they did to the life insurance industry his speech was aimed at.

So what did he think it all boiled down to?  People who are successful make habits of doing things that failures don’t like to do.  It’s really that simple.  But now you might be wondering what are the things that failures don’t like to do when it comes to fitness?

First off, most people do not like to stick to a nutrition plan or actually TRACK what they eat.  This is by far the thing that people slack on the most and is the hardest to stay on track with, but it’s the most crucial.  The people who I know that have been extremely successful in their fitness journey have been very disciplined with their nutrition and have stuck to their plans.

Second, most people do not like to workout 5 or 6 times a week.  Many people will workout maybe 3 or 4 times a week, but often there is not actual plan or anything to keep them on track.  That’s why I love the programs like P90X or Insanity.  There is a schedule to follow and it requires no thinking on your part.  Just read the schedule, put the DVD in and push play.  This is actually probably the easier part of getting in shape because it’s figured out for you!

Third, most people do not like to push themselves to failure during workouts.  I know Tony and Shaun T talk about this all the time.  “The money is in the last three reps”, “So many people stop way too early”, etc.  People who are successful really push themselves to failure in their workouts while keeping good form.  Many people stop when they feel a slight burn, but the people who see great results push themselves until they cannot do one more rep!  If you want your body to change, you need to push your body to make that change!  Obviously if you’re in immense pain you should stop, but keep going if your muscles will let you!

Finally, failures seem to have a pessimistic outlook and get discouraged easily.  People who are successful know they might have a long way to go, but they keep their goals in mind and know they will get their eventually.  Failures end up quitting when it gets a little tough or if they don’t seem to be getting the results they think they should.  People who get great results stay persistent and if their results are different then they want, they test things out and tweak their nutrition or workouts to get better results.  They stay positive and don’t give up!

So remember, if people think you’re a little weird or are “obsessed” that’s probably not really a bad thing!  The typical person is not disciplined enough to stick to a nutrition and workout plan.  And the typical person doesn’t get the results they want!!  So I want to encourage you to start good habits from Day 1.  Decide on a workout program, a nutrition plan, and plug in here or with other people that will keep you accountable and encourage you!  If you make and keep these habits you will see the results you want.  Know that they won’t come overnight, but take it one step at a time and let me know how I can help!
