P90X2 Asylum Hybrid Results

As many of you know, of the last 3 months I’ve been doing a P90X2 Asylum hybrid that I created.  Before this I had been doing a P90X Body Beast hybrid which was mostly focused on building muscle.  For this past round, I wanted to focus on core strength and athletic ability.  Both P90X2 and Asylum (volumes 1 & 2) are both perfect programs for working on athletic performance.  They’re challenging and all about making your core and stabilizer muscles strong.  Instead of doing push-ups, you’re doing push-ups with your hands on stability balls forcing you to contract your core and fire all the small, stabilizer muscles in your shoulder, tricep and chest.

What I really liked about the hybrid is the mix of workouts.  I used P90X2 mostly for the resistance routines.  In most of my hybrids, that’s how I structure it.  The cardio workotus in P90X2 aren’t bad, but Tony definitely puts more work and applies the newer techniques he’s learned into the resistance routines.  One of those cool techniques is the P3 technique, which incorporates different types of resistance moves one, right after another.  It is extremely challenging but very effective.  It’s not your standard push-ups and pull-ups, but it will get you better at those.

I chose the Asylum workouts for the cardio days because that’s what Shaun T does best.  He creates insanely tough workouts that keep your heart rate up which lets you burn a ton of calories.  The Asylum workouts also really focus on athletic performance, which is just plain fun to me.  You get a lot of work with an agility ladder so your foot speed and agility really improve.  Being a former athlete, these workouts give me a chance to compete with myself and try to constantly get better.

I completed a full 90 days of this hybrid.  There were a couple weeks in there when I was traveling which made it slightly difficult to do these workouts (I think both programs are more effective at home).  Honestly, I did not have the results that I would have liked.  I’m still pretty bulked up and want to slim down a little more.  I ended my round at about 210 lbs and my body fat is probably around 12%. For me a lot of it comes down to nutrition and I wasn’t as on track as I would have liked to be.  But I still really enjoyed the P90X2 Asylum Hybrid and I will still work towards my goals!
