P90X Insanity Hybrid

P90X insanity hybridPeople often ask me if they should do P90X or Insanity, especially when they’re just starting out.  Depending on what your goals are and what you have available to you as far as space and equipment, P90X or Insanity might be a better fit.  But in my opinion, a P90X Insanity hybrid is the best route to go to really shed some fat but maintain your muscle, especially if you’ve already done a round of P90X.  Personally, I started with Insanity, then moved on to P90X, then to Asylum and then did a hybrid of all 3.  But I realize many people don’t have Asylum or maybe aren’t ready for that yet, so I wanted to create a P90X Insanity hybrid if you’re looking for that.

P90X Insanity Hybrid – P90X workouts

So in a P90X Insanity hybrid, what P90X workouts should you use and why have them in there?  Well in my opinion, P90X has some of the best weight lifting workouts out there.  Don’t get me wrong, Plyo X is tough and I do like Kenpo X, but the workouts that I enjoy most from P90X are the lifting routines.  That’s the strong point of P90X in my opinion.  Chest & Back is probably my all-time favorite workout.  Yes, there are Insanity workouts where you do a number of push-ups, but you just can’t compare to the P90X routines.  So to help build muscle which will in turn help burn fat, the P90X workouts are very key to a good P90X Insanity hybrid schedule.

P90X Insanity Hybrid – Insanity workouts

If you’ve done both Insanity and P90X, you’ll know why the P90X Insanity hybrid has all of the cardio days from Insanity.  Again, Plyo X is a tough one, but it can’t compare to the Insanity workouts, especially month 2.  I actually jumped right into P90X after completing Insanity and remember thinking that Plyo X really wasn’t that bad.  That’s because the Insanity workouts are…insane.  I think they nailed it on the head with naming this workout.  Shaun T is a great motivator and for the cardio days in the P90X Insanity hybrid, you’ll find the Insanity workouts bring this schedule to a whole new level.

I've got a chiropractor so I'll check into it. I was also considering acupuncture ... we'll see. REALLY appreciate your help, sir. (Down 21 pounds so far!) Are you on My Fitness Pal by chance?

The knee pain is new. I did a single legged squat about 2 months ago and heard a POP.... that could be it, but I find it strange that I did a month and a half of p90 and insanity before anything came of it.... My other guess is from a slight movement of my knees to get bigger weights lifted. It's frustrating.

Tom- Your emails have been VERY helpful. (The auto-sends from signing up on the site.) I've been having some severe knee pain...total bummer. So I've been doing the p90 portion, but skipping Insanity. I'm going to look into new shoes on Saturday...got a massage yesterday...soaked in epsom salts... I also need to do more stretching. (I've been skipping the Sunday stretches.) Finally, I picked up a copy of Tapout XT to try after this round of p90x. I know....it's not a beachbody product...but I'm excited to add another routine into the mix. 8-) Hope life is treating you well, Jeff

Hey Tom! We're in week 5 of the hybrid - and LOVING IT! We had to extend our recovery week by an extra week as I tweaked my back and my friend pulled his hamstring...but it's solid. Thanks again, Jeff

Hey Tom- Really looking forward to trying this hybrid. I was going to post it on the beachbody forums - is that ok? I'll credit you and this website fer shizzle! Maybe you'll drum up some new business? Cheers, Jeff

Yeah those two options could be good to check out. That's awesome that you're down 21 lbs, nice! And yep, I'm on there. My username is tmuellenberg

Yeah, that seems really odd that it would take so long for the knee pain to show up. I have a team member who had knee pain for quite a while and actually got a lot of help at his chiropractor, so that might not be a bad route to go if it keeps up and doesn't go away.

Hey Jeff! Glad that you've been finding those emails helpful! I love to hear positive feed back like that :) Sorry to hear about the knee pain! That is really unfortunate, but it sounds like you're taking the right steps to fix it. Have you had knee pain before or is this a first? I know a few people who have done TapoutXT as well. Sounds like a pretty good program, I think anything that gets your heart rate up and sweat flowing is a good thing! Great to hear from you! Tom

Hey Jeff! That's awesome to hear! I really do think the hybrid is a great schedule so I'm glad you do too. And great call on taking the extra recovery, it's important to heal up before you push it too hard again and make things worse. Way to be smart about that!

Tom! Finally started this hybrid. Only on day 2 and WOW - I'm hurting. Me likey! Also, I started a workout group at my church on Mon/Wed/Fri. That means, on my resistance days, I'm doing double duty. Yowza! Thanks again, Jeff

Sounds like you've got a great thing going there! And I've never heard of anyone sending themselves to the hospital from Ab Ripper, he must have been working hard! Way to inspire people, I'm sure they appreciate the motivation! And yeah, as long as you're mostly doing extra cardio you should be just fine as long as you fuel and hydrate yourself well.

Thanks bud. At church, we're doing a combo of p90x, insanity and 25k (running app). We are also doing a couple of CrossFit days! (Our first is this Saturday and I'm stoked!) We had one guy who pushed WAAAAY too hard on ab ripper on the very first day - he ended up in the hospital. He's fine, but he was a hurtin unit. Thanks for the encouragement to up my calories. I am really trying to dial in my diet for this round. Also, we only do the cardio at church, so that shouldn't affect my resistance days... we shall see. Jeff

That's awesome Jeff! I love this schedule, it really works! And that's sweet that you started your own fit club too. What workouts are you doing for that? Make sure to up your calories on those days because 2 workouts is going to be killer! You'll have to keep me updated on how the schedule treats you! Tom
