My P90X3 Results & Review

Rochelle and I just recently finished up the first 90 days of P90X3, so I wanted to share our P90X3 results and give you my thoughts on the entire program.  I’ve been writing reviews along the way, which get a little more detailed about all the individual workouts.  So you can check those out too: P90X3 Phase 1 Review, P90X3 Phase 2 Review, P90X3 Phase 3 Review.  I’ve done P90X and P90X2 multiple times, so I’m not new to Tony’s workouts and was very excited when I heard this came out.  30 minutes instead of 50-90 minutes for a workout is a big deal for a lot of people.  This could really be a game changer for people who are busy and don’t have a lot of time for a workout.

P90X3 Results – The Numbers

So I’ll get right into our P90X3 results.  To give a little background, I came into P90X3 after having done multiple rounds of either Body Beast or a Body Beast/P90X hybrid.  So I had been working on adding muscle.  Inevitably with trying to add some mass, you’ll also put on some fat.  So I was a little heavier at the start of this round than I’d like at just over 214 lbs.  My goal was to get below 200 lbs and into single digit body fat, which did not happen in the first round, and I’m ok with that.  I ended up losing 8 lbs and 9.5 inches!  I’m very happy with that progress and know I have momentum on my side right now to keep going to lean out as summer gets closer and get under 200 lbs.  So that gives you an idea of my progress, but here are my day 1, 30, 60 and 90 pictures, as well as Rochelle’s day 1 and 90’s.  She got a lot stronger and gained a lot of definition throughout the program which I think is pretty obvious!

My Final Thoughts – P90X3 Results & Review

Honestly, I was skeptical that P90X3 could give the same type of results as P90X or P90X2.  I was expecting it to be more of a beginner’s program that might not push me as hard as I’d like.  But after day 1 I knew my assumption was wrong!  P90X3 was a lot harder than I expected.  The moves are challenging and the pace is quick, so there aren’t a lot of breaks and you really burn a lot of calories.  I was typically burning over 500 calories according to my heart rate monitor, which I think is awesome for only 30 minutes of working out!  It was also the first time that Rochelle and I had done a program together.  Previously she had been more of a Chalene Johnson fan with ChaLEAN Extreme and TurboFire.  So she was no rookie when it comes to workouts.  She did follow the modifications for some of the moves, but for the most part she hung right with me in what I was doing.

If you’re looking for a program to build a lot of mass, P90X3 probably isn’t what you’re looking for.  I would recommend something more like Body Beast or the original P90X.  But if you’re looking for a balance of strength training, core work and cardio, P90X3 is an awesome choice and I highly recommend it.  Right now we’re doing the Elite Block of P90X3 and then most likely we’ll be doing some hybrid of all the P90X programs which I think would be pretty fun.  So P90X3 will definitely be in my workout rotation.  If you only have 30 minutes, X3 is a great solution.  Feel free to check out more info on the program here or check out the P90X3 Challenge Pack option, which is what we went with.
