My Insanity Review

Insanity was the first Beachbody program that I used, and I absolutely love it!  Through being involved in sports growing up I did plenty of conditioning drills, but Insanity by far tops them all.  It’s not even close!  I was first attracted to the program because you don’t need any additional equipment.  All you need is a way to play the DVD and some space to workout in.  That and the ability to DIG DEEP every day!   Insanity utilizes the HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) philosophy.  Basically, you go all out for roughly 3 minutes, then you get a 30 second break and then repeat.  There is no doubt that you’ll be pouring sweat and out of breath by the time the warm-up is done!   I remember thinking that the name should be changed to “Impossible” after my first workout of the second month because man was it tough!  But I kept digging deep and got better and better each time I did the workouts.   So if you’re just starting the program, don’t feel bad if you can’t make it through every workout!!  It takes a lot of time to get to that point but it’s totally worth it!

Insanity is definitely not a program to use if you’re looking to build a lot of muscle, but if you’re looking to shred fat and drop pounds, this is the best program to use in my opinion.  I dropped 17 lbs. during 1 round of Insanity and I was in the best cardio shape of my life.  I play basketball at my church and after completing Insanity I found that I could go much longer and much harder without feeling totally wiped.  It was a great feeling to be in such good shape!!  These are also great workouts to create a hybrid with.  The P90X cardio routines are definitely not as intense, so if you’re looking for something harder I would suggest subbing the Insanity workouts for the P90X cardio routines.  That way you get the best of both the lifting workouts with P90X and cardio workouts with Insanity.

Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts on Insanity!!

  1. […] Insanity was the first Beachbody program I completed and really loved it.  I incorporated the workouts into a hybrid as well because I really think they work.  I wrote a review of Insanity which you can check out here. […]
