March Check-In

Hi team!

I know today is the last day of March, but I hope this month has treated you well!  I’ve been a bit quieter than normal, but that’s because our family grew by one this month!  We welcomed our baby boy to the world on March 17th and have been focusing on making sure his needs are met and figuring out our new schedule as parents.  It’s an incredible journey so far.  Sure we’re getting a bit less sleep than normal and our schedules look different, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.  I have a whole new respect for you parents out there who are raising families and also making sure you put in time to stay healthy and fit!

My success tip this month is to not wait for everything to be perfect to start focusing on your health, start now.  This comes from an idea I’ve been learning about in the book, The Magic of Thinking Big.  The author talks about all the different excuses people have for not accomplishing more.  People think they’re either too old, or too young, not smart enough, the timing isn’t right, etc etc.  Basically people think that the timing isn’t right or they are not perfectly situated to take advantage of an opportunity in front of them.  The way I relate that to health and fitness is that I often hear people tell me that they’re not in good enough shape to do a program like P90X, or they just don’t know how to cook healthy foods.  Or on the coaching side of things, people often don’t take advantage of an awesome opportunity because they feel like they don’t know enough or haven’t had as good of results as they want before they start inspiring others.

Basically, people are waiting for everything to line up perfectly before they embark on a new journey to accomplish something they want to do.  But the truth is that timing will never be perfect.  There’s always a reason to put something off just a little longer.  There’s always a holiday coming up that will throw them off track if they start now.  If you just start now you can manage those distractions as they come up.  Nobody can get through a whole P90X workout without taking a break their first time and no one has started their Coaching career knowing all the answers to questions that people will ask them.  You learn along the way, and you learn from mistakes so that you can continue moving forward towards your goals.

I’m going to do the best I can to hold my feet to the fire on this too, and I hope you’ll help hold me accountable.  I want to be the best husband and father that I can be, and I truly think that means I need to make sure I’m healthy so I can be at my best for my family.  We got home from the hospital last Saturday, and I started my second round of Hammer & Chisel on Monday.  I’m going to put my best effort forward and I’m planning to crush this second round.
