Gimmicks

We’ve all seen the infomercials for things like the shake weight, ab toning bands, etc.  They all promise that if you just use them for 6 minutes a day you’ll get ripped like the people on the screen.  They’ll even show you the scientific research showing you how if you put this band on your stomach, it works your abs 3 times as hard as a regular crunch.  I’m not going to lie, I’ve been fooled by things like that in the past.  Products like this are obviously successful, otherwise we wouldn’t see so many infomercials for them.  Why do people keep getting tricked by products that really won’t help them?

Personally, I think there are two reasons why these products are successful:

1)  Many people genuinely want to get in shape, lose weight, and get healthy.  There’s no question about it, health and fitness is a huge industry.  So many people want and need to lose a few or a lot of pounds so their interest is already peaked.

2)  Many people are just looking for the easiest way to get in shape.  Many people who have gotten very out of shape have done so because they have been lazy.  If you tell someone like that that they just need to throw a big band around their waste that will electrically stimulate their ab muscles and will give them a ripped 6-pack, then of course they’re going to want to do that instead of workout 5-6 days a week and watch what the eat!  Or if something promotes an “easy” way to get in shape, where you just have to hold and jiggle something for 6 minutes a day (I think you know what I’m talking about), then people will gravitate toward that product.  This is what actually makes me a little mad about all the ab products and shake weights out there.  The people that make them know they’re just a marketing scam and they are preying on people that need real help.

If you’ve been fooled by something like this, don’t feel bad, many people have too!  It looks appealing at first, especially all the ab machines.  What the advertisements for those machines don’t tell you is that you really need to drop your body fat if you want to see your abs.  You could have the strongest abs in the world but you’re not going to see them if you have a couple inches of fat covering them!

What it really takes to make a healthy lifestyle change is hard work and the discipline to eat healthy foods and workout hard.  It is not easy.  Working out 5-6 days a week and sticking to a nutrition plan is probably not what you’re used to if you’re not in great shape.  Believe me, even though it’s very second nature for me now, I still wouldn’t say it’s easy.  It takes dedication and hard work every day!  For me, Beachbody programs and supplements are a huge help.  Will they magically make you healthier all by themselves?  No!  But they give you amazing workouts and schedules to follow and they provide all the nutritional information you need.  All you have to do is push play and bring it with your workouts and follow the nutrition guide, or ask your coach (hopefully that’s me) to help you figure out the nutrition.  So please put away the shake weight, it’s not going to help you!  Don’t get fooled by those gimmicks that don’t work!

Just took a look at the body blade and it looks like an overpriced tool in my opinion. It probably does work some, but I would bet you will get better results with P90X!

Yeah, I know you got burned by one of these things, Aaron, which really stinks. I'm glad you've found what really works, though!
