Find Something You Like

shauntliveThe number one topic I get questions on or see people struggle with is motivation.  “How can I stay motivated to workout?”  “How do you stick with your plan so well?”  “I wish I was as motivated as you.”  These are all pretty common things I hear.  I know motivation can be difficult.  I struggled with it a lot right out of college which is what led to me putting on over 20 lbs in a year!  I just wasn’t very motivated to workout, so I found myself either skipping it or not putting a ton of work into it.  One big reason I think, is because my workouts didn’t really get me excited.  I didn’t really enjoy doing it.

Then I stumbled upon Insanity and fell in love with it.  I loved how hard it was and I knew I was really changing my health.  I looked forward to the challenge and actually had fun doing it.  As I did more research, I found out that it was made by Beachbody, which had several other programs, like the popular P90X.  That’s the point where I would say I was hooked.  I went from Insanity, to P90X, to The Asylum, to P90X2, to The Asylum Volume 2, to Body Beast, to Focus T25 and now P90X3.  You could say I’m a junkie 🙂  But I keep doing these programs because I find it fun!  They challenge me in new ways and I know I’m doing something good for my health.

Why I like Beachbody Workouts

For about 3.5 years I’ve been doing Beachbody workouts exclusively.  I’ve never found programs or a routine that I enjoy so much and it’s what works for me.  Does it have to be the answer for you?  Absolutely not.  But these are the reasons I like what Beachbody has to offer:

  • At home – I don’t need a gym membership and can workout in the privacy of my own home.  I do things in these workouts that I would never do in a gym just because I would be self-conscious of what people would think of me.
  • Challenge – Beachbody really does offer programs for every fitness level.  I’ve continued to find good, challenging workouts that make me struggle and make me get better in different areas.
  • The trainers – I know he’s corny, but I think Tony Horton is hilarious.  He cracks me up all the time.  I like Shaun T as well since he is extremely motivating and I get a kick out of Sagi as well.  Those are the three trainers that I enjoy the most, so I do their programs.
  • Results – I’ve honestly never seen the kind of results that I’ve had with these programs when doing other things.
  • Structure – I like the fact that I just have to put in a DVD and push play.  I don’t really have to think too hard about what I’m going to do, because they lay it out for you.  It makes it very simple to follow.
  • Fun – Overall, for me these programs have just struck a chord.  I like doing them, so I look forward to my workouts.

So those are just a few reasons that I like the Beachbody workouts.  I could list a ton more, but I just wanted to give a few brief reasons on what keeps me coming back for more.  Honestly, motivation is not hard for me because I truly look forward to my workouts every day.  It’s one of my favorite parts of the day so I very rarely skip.

Find What You Like

Obviously I like Beachbody workouts, but do you have to like them?  No, I don’t think so.  Do they work really well?  Yeah, but if it’s something that you’re going to dread every day, it’s probably not the right solution.  It could be that you just haven’t tried the right program, or maybe you need something entirely different.  Maybe you like running, or CrossFit, or your own programs that you come up with.  Whatever it is, it should be something you look forward to.  If you like what you’re doing, then you won’t struggle for motivation.  I’m not here to tell you to do exactly what I do.  If you want to, that’s great, but I know it’s not going to be exactly what everyone loves.  If you’re looking to get motivated, start doing research and finding something that you’ll like and let that be a big factor in your decision when you choose what to do!
