Falafel Recipe

Falafels are a new food item for me, but I had this recipe sent to me from one of our faithful Team New Body members.  I was very curious as I had never really even heard of falafels, but it turned out great!  I do really enjoy dishes with chick peas (I’m a huge hummus fan) and this was a great way to use them in a new way.  The recipe comes from Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s book Appetite for Reduction

1 can of chickpeas
2 cloves garlic
1/2 an onion, chopped,
1/2 cup parsley leaves
2tsp olive oil
2tsp hot sauce
3 to 4 tbsps chickpea flour (gram flour) (I just had all-purpose flour on hand)
1tsp cumin
1tsp ground coriander
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp baking powder
salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 400F.
Pulse chickpeas and garlic in food processor, add onion, parsley olive oil, hot sauce and blend until smooth-ish. Transfer to a bowl. Mix in chickpea flour, cumin, coriander, paprika, baking powder, salt and pepper.  Shape into 12 balls.  Bake on a baking sheet for 16 to 18 minutes.  Flip them over and bake for a further 8-10 minutes.

As you can see, I didn’t shape my falafels too well, but they still tasted great!  It’s a fun new dish, I highly recommend it!
