6-pack Abs

I think we’ve all seen plenty of infomercials for products promising to give you the 6-pack that you’ve always wanted.  Usually all you have to do is put this big strap around your stomach and in no time you’ll look like the people on the screen.  They even show you scientific research on how their product works your abs much harder than a regular crunch.  It all sounds really promising and the people look great in the infomercial, so it must work right?  Of course it doesn’t!  If it was as easy as they made it look, then everyone you saw would have a ripped stomach.

With the overwhelming number of different products/gimmicks that are out there on the market, it does tell me that lots of people really desire to have defined abs or a 6-pack.  But they’re really going about it all wrong.  I’m sure you’ve heard it before, but the secret is that abs are made in the kitchen!

What does that really mean?  If you really want to see your abs, you need to lose body fat.  No matter how strong your abs are, if you have fat covering them, they’re not going to show.  That’s where all the gimmicks are off.  None of them talk about losing body fat, they only talk about how hard they work your abdominal muscles.  Shaun T even points this out in Insanity.  He’s pointing to Ariel and says “You might not have abs like that yet, but they’re there.”  And it’s so true.  Everyone has abdominal muscles, but most people have too much body fat to really see them.

So what you really need to focus on is what you eat.  You must pick a nutrition plan, track your calories, and stick to it!  You can do Ab Ripper X as many times as you want, but if you don’t dial in your nutrition you’ll never get the 6-pack like the people in that workout.  It’s not rocket science, but it’ not easy either.  You have to be really disciplined to stick to your diet when temptations arise.  But if your goal is to have a ripped stomach, then that’s what you’re going to have to do.  Don’t get me wrong, the workouts are really important too.  You need to do the ab workouts and really bring it, but you’re wasting your time if you’re not sticking to a nutrition plan.

So don’t waste your money on those stupid gimmicks that won’t give you the results you want.  Push play every day, track what you eat, and don’t give up if it takes longer than you expect to get the body you want.  It takes time, but you will get there if you stay focused!
